FEMA To Test EAS and WEA Systems on August 11th

FEMA, in coordination with the FCC, will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) this month. The national test will consist of two segments, to test EAS and WEA. Both tests are set to begin at 1820 UTC on Wednesday, August 11. The WEA portion of the test will be directed only to consumer cell phones where the subscriber has opted to receive test messages. The EAS portion of the test will be sent to radios and televisions. This will mark the sixth nationwide EAS test. The purpose of the August 11 test is to ensure that the EAS and WEA systems continue to be effective means of warning the public about emergencies.
